The Black Hole
Camera Angles
A Low angle is used to make it look like the black hole was looking
at him
Another low angle is used on man when he has the black hole. This
shows the power that the man now has, however, it’s as if the
hole has the power.
At the start, the camera moves towards the character very slowly. This makes us think that he has been there for a long time.
As camera jumps back at the end, the printer gets louder until the printer makes an error noise. This is parallel to the situation that the man is in as he too has made an error
Editing
When the man puts his has through the hole in mid-air, we
should be able to see his hand going through the paper.
However, his hand just disappears.
When we see the title of the
short film, there’s a circle that
expands, this gives us a hint as
to what the short film may be
about.
When the man first puts his hand
through the paper to get the cup, there’s an eye line match. This
shows his facial expressions and shows how confused he is.
Sound
Ominous sound when hole was being used is quite unnerving.
There’s a forewarning that something bad will happen when the sound gets louder and longer.
Sigh shows he’s looking for an escape and the black hole seems to be his answer.
Mise-en-scene
Low key lighting on face and centre shot when the door is opening – ill intentions that he’s not the good guy especially because there’s shadows on his face.
When he is eating the chocolate bar, it shows how determined he is as he starts off with something small and then he goes for the money.
Door is in the centre reminds people on a horror film and makes it
look quite sinister.
Throughout the whole short film, there is very low key ominous
lighing suggesting something bad will happen. Therefore, the
lighting could be foreshadowing the end of the short film where the
man gets trapped in the safe. Aswell as this the low key lighting makes him look possessed.
A green ominous light has been used to make us think of another world.
The black hole could be used to represent his job. Because it's black it could be used to represent how his job very repetitive.
We know it’s set in an office straight away from certain props like the printer
The man starts off at the start of the film looking bored and fed up, and at the end he looks sinister. This emphasises what power can do to someone
Because he’s done something wrong, we see him get punished.
The light flickering symbolises that he has a choice between something good and something bad and has the choice to stop.
